Salmon, tuna, trout, sardines and mackerel are the best-known sources of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA & DHA. These essential fats protect your heart, your cells and your mental function and help you lose weight. Studies indicate that depression can also be alleviated with adequate intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are also powerful anti-inflammatory nutrients and can ameliorate arthritis pain.

Be sure you get wild-caught fish because farm-raised fish are fed a high grain diet that reduces their omega-3 content. In addition, they are more likely to have high levels of mercury and other heavy metal toxins.
